You will learn to speak and listen better. You will also learn vocabulary and grammar so your reading and writing will improve. This exciting course helps you to understand the Australian way of life and to improve your pronunciation and conversational skills. You will study many different subjects in a class suited to your language level. ¡ß GENERAL ENGLISH (Level 1) (UPPER ELEMENTARY)
This program would suit students who have learnt English as a Foreign Language but have had little opporrtunity to communicate in English. Classes Include:
Listening and speaking through small class teaching CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) computer skills self access study in the ILC (Independent Learning Centre) Excursions and social activities Entry requirements: Less than IELTS 4.5
¡ß GENERAL ENGLISH (Level 2) (LOWER INTERMEDIATE)
This level further develops the skils outlined in General English (Level 1), extending the students basic knowledge of grammar and vocabulary function using general materials. Classes Include:
CALL computing video production
Students who require some General English before beginning English for Academic Purposes should enrol in this course. Entry requirements: Less than IELTS 4.5
ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES 1
You will improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. You will learn many academic skills that will help prepare you for studying in Australian universities and TAFE. Your skills at reading and writing essays will be developed. Also you will practise listening and note taking skills. You will learn how to use technology to research and present information.
This program introduces the skills required in tertiary studies. Emphasis is placed on:
reading strategies essay writing listening, research and library techniques individual oral presentations Computers/CALL Entry requirements: IELTS 5.0
ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES 2
You will learn the vocabulary and the language skills that you will need when studying at university or TAFE in Australia. You will improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in areas related to your future study. You will also learn advanced research and library techniques, computing skills and how to give a group presentation in front of a large audience. An important part of this course is the specialist area of study. So you will learn English that relates specifically to the course you will study. Direct Entry is possible only after successful completion of this level. Test preparation (International English Language Testing System - IELTS and Business English Certificate - BEC) is an elective part of this course.

In this program students are placed in groups according to their intended course of study or occupation. English study is related to the following fields:

- Engineering
- Humanities
The focus of this course is to extend specialist vocabulary and to develop the following skills in relation to the above disciplines:
- essay and report writing
- oral and written analysis of graphic information
- listening and notetaking
- research skills using a specialist index to access information from magazines, newspapers, journals and textbooks
- group presentations
- IELTS preparation
- computing - spreadsheets
Students entering this program must have a background in English for Academic Purposes.
Entry requirements:
- IELTS 5.5
note *** - If you have a low bandscore in one of reading / writing / listening / speaking or are entering an advanced standing or postgraduate program we recommend that you enter the longer course indicated for that overall bandscore.
IELTS PREPARATION (International English Language Testing System)
You will practise and improve all the skills that you need to improve your IELTS score in IELTS tests. You will also do some practice tests so that you become familiar with the requirements of the IELTS test. You will improve your IELTS testing skills by understanding the requirements and format of the test. This course is dependent upon minimum numbers.
