¢ºGE-15) The Burlington's General English Semi-Intensive Course(15 hrs p/week)
This involves approximately 3 hours per day, 5 days a week (precisely 13 hours 20 minutes per week excluding breaks), of instruction. This is the School's main course in general English. Emphasis is placed on all four language skill development areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing, with a balance of language structure (grammar) and practical usage. This course is offered at all levels. It aims to increase learners' confidence in communicating effectively in English, while ensuring that classes are fun and interesting as well as educationally stimulating.

¢ºGE-20, The Burlington's General English Intensive Plus (20 hrs p/week)

This programme comprises approximately 15 hours per week of General English, plus approximately 5 hours of fluency classes in smaller group sessions. These extra fluency classes focus predominantly on the skills of listening and speaking and cover the following areas: pronunciation, functional English, appropriacy of style and register, discussion skills, vocabulary extension, problem-solving and ranking activities, idiomatic expressions, colloquialisms and communication strategies.

¢ºGE-25, The Burlington's General English Intensive Plus(25 hrs p/week)

This programme combines a GE-15 session with approximately a one-hour fluency class (Fluency Workshop) plus about an extra hour of grammar instruction (Grammar Workshop) each day. This is a challenging schedule and provides an opportunity for the very serious student to obtain approximately five hours per day of the highest quality English language instruction at a very reasonable price. This course aims to improve learners' fluency, along with increasing their awareness of the mechanics of the English language. ¢º(CE-15A) Cambridge Examination Preparation: First Certificate(15 hrs p/week)

The First Certificate in English (FCE) is the most widely-taken Cambridge University English language examination. FCE is an upper-intermediate plus level examination which has gained substantial recognition as an indicator of English language competency and is recognised by many educational and commercial institutions in Britain and other parts of the English-speaking world. The School's FCE Preparation Course is designed to introduce test-taking strategies, as well as providing a thorough review of all skills necessary for the successful completion of the exam.

Required language level: upper intermediate

¢º(CE-15B) Cambridge Examination Preparation:Advanced(15 hrs p/week)

Our Cambridge Advanced examination course focuses on specific areas of emphasis expected to be covered in this examination. Classes feature rigorous classroom exercises plus frequent review of questions in simulated test conditions.

Required language level: advanced

¢º(CE-15C) Cambridge Examination Preparation:Proficiency(15 hrs p/week)
The Cambridge Proficiency Examination is recognised by British universities and businesses as well as international institutions as an important indication of competence in the English language. This Burlington course concentrates on the specific requirements for this test, and includes intensive class and homework exercises in all necessary skills.

The course is officially recognised by two good quality UK Universities and will be taken as evidence of language ability (equivalent 5.5 - 6.5 IELTS) by most other UK universities. Students passing the final test will be given counseling and support in their applications to Universities in the U.K.


¢º(S20-D) University Foundation Course(25 hrs p/week)
The University Foundation course consists of 25 hours a week of specialist tuition over 12 weeks. There are three modules: Doing Business in Britain, Academic Study Skills / Social Behaviour, The Culture and Politics of Britain. The course will give a good foundation for students going on to business and liberal arts studies in British Universities.

The Burlington's General Business English course is a three-week introductory programme of study combining GE-15 classes with one week each of Marketing English, General Office English and Import/Export English. Some students with limited time may choose to attend a single one-week segment only. This course is offered on a scheduled basis throughout the year, subject to advance notification and demand.

¢º(GBE-5D) Marketing English Component of GBE (General Business English)(20 hrs p/week)

Many students who enter business eventually are involved in marketing or sales. Today, global trade requires marketing/sales individuals who are effective and persuasive in their use of the English language. The Burlington's Marketing English component is an intensive course with teachers who are experienced in the teaching of Business English.

Required language level:Mid- intermediate or above

¢º(GBE-5E) Office English Component of GBE, (General Business English) (20 hrs p/week)
In this course component, the student learns English language as used in a typical western office setting. In class, the teacher simulates office environments and the most effective methods for communication in written and oral form in a variety of different situations.

¢º(GBE-5F)Import/Export English Component of GBE, (General Business English)(20 hrs p/week)
English is the language of international commerce. The student in this component class deals with typical communication challenges facing trading companies who must deal with western customers, suppliers, and trading partners.

¢º(S-20A) English Language for Teachers/GE-15 Combination(20 hrs p/week)
This course consists of 15 hours per week of General English combined with 5 hours of specialist classes in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language. The course is intended for non-native speaker instructors. The student improves her/his own English skills and acquires important knowledge and techniques for assisting future English language students. The specialist classes are designed to give students a combination of the latest theories in EFL teaching and practical suggestions for the classroom. The first specialist class is devoted to a detailed needs analysis of each student. The remainder of the course focuses on the teaching of specific skills, phonology, grammar etc. as well as a range of sessions dealing with topics such as improving classroom dynamics, using technology in the classroom and utilising authentic materials. Please note: there is no teaching practice component in this course.
