For students with beginner to low advanced ability
Our instructors use a communicative approach which is focused on developing language fluency
The program includes - speaking/listening, reading, writing and grammar
The class time spent on each language area is as follows:
ESL 1 - 60% speaking/listening/grammar; 25% reading; 15% writing ESL 2 - 55% speaking/listening/grammar; 25% reading; 20% writing ESL 3 - 30% speaking/listening; 25% grammar; 25% reading; 20% writing ESL 4 - 30% speaking/listening; 25% grammar; 25% reading; 20% writing ESL 5 - 50% speaking/listening; 10% grammar; 20% reading; 20% writing ESL 6 - 50% speaking/listening; 10% grammar; 20% reading; 20% writing

¡á English for Academic Purposes - EAP 1 to 4
For students with intermediate to advanced ability who wish to prepare for college, university, or who wish to challenge themselves in a more demanding program.
The EAP programs emphasize academic listening and reading, advanced grammar applications, and paragraph and essay writing.
Graduates of EAP Level 4 satisfy the language proficiency requirement for diploma, university transfer and applied programs at Mount Royal College. Graduates of EAP Level 4 with an 80% average, satisfy the admission requirement for SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) and ACAD (Alberta College of Art and Design)

¡á International Communication (IC)
IC will no longer be offered effective January 2005.
For students with intermediate to advanced ability who wish to concentrate on listening/speaking, and reading in preparation for TOEIC.
Students are exposed to common English idioms.
Students develop confidence using English by participating in field trips, guest lectures, community volunteer activities, group research projects.
Students write the TOEIC both at the beginning and at the end of the term. Most students notice dramatic improvement in their scores.
70% of the course is based on listening, speaking and reading. Students are given opportunities to communicate with first language speakers in the community.
Students are also given instruction on the computers and produce computer-based projects for in-class presentations.
